Background: Obesity tends to lead to ineffective antibody production after COVID-19 vaccination. One of the widely studied antibody parameters currently is the quantitative anti-SARS-CoV-2, which is an in vitro examination to measure quantitative antibodies (including IgG) against the receptor binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 Spike (S) protein. There are reports that COVID-19 vaccination also causes an increase in blood pressure, especially mRNA-based vaccines.
Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the correlation between post-COVID-19 vaccination anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody levels and blood pressure in obese and non-obese individuals.
Methods: This study is an analytical cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 96 healthcare workers at Prof. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah Hospital, aged 18-59 years, who have undergone a COVID-19 vaccination program with 4 doses (two boosters and the last booster using the mRNA-1273 or Moderna vaccine).
Result: Systolic and diastolic blood pressure correlated with anti-SARS-CoV-2 levels (r=0.265, p=0.009 and r=0.245, p=0.016). In the obese group, systolic and diastolic blood pressure showed a positive and significant correlation with anti-SARS-CoV-2 levels (r=0.373; p=0.011 and r=0.351; p=0.017).
Conclusion: Systolic and diastolic blood pressure have a positive and significant correlation with anti-SARS-CoV-2 levels, especially in the obese group.
